The Perfect Gentleman

We thought we knew Jack. We were wrong. Gentleman Jack, the rare Tennessee whiskey, changes the way we feel about the venerable Jack Daniel’s brand.

Gentleman Jack easily holds its own against the best bourbons that we’ve tested – single barrel or small-batch – and is certainly among the finest domestic whiskeys we’ve evaluated this year. Its rating of 97.5 is a reflection of its refinement, sophistication and good taste – qualities becoming of any gentleman.

We were particularly impressed by its light vanilla nose, which was a welcome prelude to Jack’s rich palate and ethereal finish. Its flavor complements, rather than overwhelms, other spirits, as evidenced by The Gentleman’s Chocolate Covered Cherry, The Gentleman’s Sour Apple Kiss and The Lady’s Gentleman.

We’re told that Gentleman Jack is charcoal-mellowed twice – once before it’s aged in white oak barrels, and once again four years later before it’s bottled. While the process fascinates us, it’s the outcome that matters.

And the outcome, in Gentleman Jack’s case, is quite impressive.
